About Toney
Toney first appeared on stage at the age of 12 when he portrayed the title character in a Memphis production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. That began a series of toles in local shows, which eventually earned him a scholarship to Lambuth University where he was awarded the "Best Actor" trophy. After graduation, Toney performed in musical stage productions at both Opryland in Nashville and Livertyville in Memphis. He also appeared in leading roles at Theatre Memphis and at The Playhouse on the Square.
Relocating to Los Angeles for a brief fime, he did voice-over work for several radio commercials and performed with the Pierce Collage Jazz Choir.. He also starred with Gordon McRae in the San Bernardino Civic LIght Opera production of the hit Broadway musical Shenandoah.
Upon moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Toney immediately found work on stage as well as in front of the TV camera. He has appeared in over 100 stage productions at theaters such as Casa Manana, Finley Playhouse, New Arts Theatre, Dallas Repertory Theater, Plano Civic Theater, Irving Community Theater and Coppell Community Theater. He has been a featured actor in dozens of TV commercials and industrial films, and played Detective Doug Jackson on the CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger. As a guest vocalist with several orchestras, Toney has shared the stage with such well-known performers as Phyllis Diller, Jerry Van Dyke and J.J. Thomas.
